Apprenticeships is currently a very popular topic and incentives have created a wide variety of opportunities in different industries. There is tough competition for permanent relations and so it is important to stand out.
What is an employer looking into an apprentice? How can you get your chance to grab the best if you do get the job?
Application and interview
Most trainees have no formal training or qualifications. Recruiters are therefore looking for people who are passionate about the sector in which they apply for a job and therefore will bring energy and enthusiasm to the job.
Despite your lack of direct work experience you can still show off your interest and skills in other ways set. These include, if appropriate, refer to your hobbies. Someone, for example, to an apprenticeship as do a technician application will have no problems in an interview if he can demonstrate his love for information technology by showing how he uses it in his spare time.
It is also important to demonstrate to the other general skills needed in the workplace, such as good communication skills as well as creativity and innovation. Give examples of how you have worked in a group or on your own. In short, show how versatile you are. If there is an element of sales or customer interaction, talk about your experience to provide an excellent service in other areas of your life. See why it was good and you could draw from it.
It’s hard to balance work and academic studies together. Employers are looking for individuals with a desire to learn and to work hard.
Remember: It’s not just about what you say or your application, body language is crucial in an interview – something many novices forget. Make eye contact, sit up straight in your chair and speak clearly without mumbling. Also remember that look your prospective employer how you will go about it with customers.
Apprentices can sometimes fall into the trap to hard to try or too much to do quickly. They then become impatient if the gears not turn fast enough. This impatience can be interpreted as boredom.
Since you are new in the industry, it is not uncommon to start with the more basic tasks. Initially, it was about to work in yourself, to get a feel for the role and become familiar with the industry.
Know where you engage
Make sure you have a good understanding of what your employer and manager, you are expected in order to avoid disappointment. Ask if you can talk with other apprentices before starting work. It shows you take the lead – something that employers appreciate – just make sure you get good insight into the organization and your role as an apprentice.
Acknowledge your shortcomings
It is important to recognize if you are not fit for anything. So if you do not like none of sales and are therefore not good, then say so. It is better to find a suitable career than to try to enforce the wrong one on yourself. Employers appreciate honesty and self-awareness as a sign of professional maturity.
You will enable you to to seek an alternative career by being honest instead of working hard in an internship program that you do not enjoy.
Listen to your colleagues
As an apprentice, you will probably come into contact with a lot of skilled individuals who are already working in the industry. They may set a different phase of life when you have to and follow other pursuits, but make sure you spend time with them – their advice and experience can really enable you to build a successful career.
Do not make the mistake to push them away. Consider them as your mentors and draw on their expertise and experience. Ask them for advice and feedback to improve your skills, plan your career, raising your profile and give you a great confidence boost.
Be confident and positive
Employers invest a lot of time and money into apprenticeship and they want to see that it makes a positive impact. It is important to demonstrate that you are hungry to learn and show an interest in the industry. Do not be afraid to suggest ideas.
The reality is that many employers you an email will be presenting at the end of your apprenticeship because they know you and do not want to lose your knowledge. However, you must show that you really want to be there and that you are committed to what you do. Be positive, show you can take the lead, strives to impress and reflect on what you bring to the team.
